Vietnam

Vietnam

An impromptu stop in Vietnam before heading to Australia. My girlfriend and I set out on a four day motorbike trip through northern Vietnam with a camera, some local guides and a deep curiosity for what lay ahead.
What we found was a landscape alive with motion and meaning, rice fields stretching to the horizon, mist-covered mountains, and the everyday poetry of rural life.

On the second morning we began early, before sunrise the mist hovered above the water-filled terraces, and the world felt still except for the distant hum of life waking up. The first light spilling over the rice paddies turning everything golden; water, leaves, and sky all melting into one perfect reflection.

One of the moments that stayed with me most was meeting a lady farming rice in a quiet valley. Her movements were rhythmic and steady, every gesture honed by years of experience.
I asked for permission to take her photo, she looked up, smiled, and returned to work. A common understanding was met and I snapped away.

As we rode through small villages and up steep mountains, there was the ever present feeling of how simple life really can be. Through clouds we rode on, crossing narrow bridges, having pitstops frequently for some refreshments and to breathe in the feeling of the mountains.

Around every twist and turn and corner revealed a new vista, terraced hills, farmers leading water buffalo along narrow paths, children waving from the side of the road.

There was many quiet stops too. A cold drink shared with locals, on the side of the road for a stretch and a quick bum massage (to get blood flow back), then back on the road again. Nothing but the engine buzzing and the wind whizzing, a small reminder that travel isn't always about the destination but about how you got there. The final chapter of the trip came to a close, and I looked back at the photos we’d captured not just as images, but as pieces of memory.
Each one holds a story: the woman in the field, the light on the paddies, the long winding roads of the north. Together, they paint a portrait of Vietnam’s strength, rhythm, and quiet beauty.

These images and more are now available as part of my Vietnam Collection, offered as fine art prints as a way to bring the calm and colour of that journey into your own home.
